THE LAKE DISTRICT WILD GRAVEL RIDE

Join us in the heart of the Lake District for an unforgettable gravel adventure around Grasmere and the surrounding fells.

This challenging route combines quiet lanes, gravel tracks, forest roads and spectacular Lake District scenery, with plenty of climbing along the way. At approximately 60 km and 1,380 m of elevation gain, it’s a proper day out for riders looking to experience the best of Lakeland gravel.

With dramatic mountain views, remote tracks and the iconic landscapes surrounding Grasmere, this is gravel riding with a distinctly Lake District character.

Event Schedule

Gravel Ride – approximately 60 km

Start Window: 7:30 – 8:30 AM

Recommended: riders expecting a longer day or a slower pace should begin closer to 7:30 AM.

The Route

60 km Lake District Gravel Ride – A challenging single-loop route starting and finishing near Grasmere.

The route features approximately 1,383 m of total climbing, taking riders through some of the most spectacular scenery in the Lake District.

Expect a varied mix of surfaces and terrain, with sustained climbs, fast descents, gravel tracks and quieter sections of road.

This is a route designed to reward riders who enjoy a challenge, with the scenery providing plenty of reasons to stop and take it all in.

The route will be signed, but it is expected participants have the route dowloaded to follow also.

Highest point: ~243 m
Start/finish elevation: ~40–45 m

Who Is It For?

This is a challenging gravel ride rather than a beginner-level sportive.

The distance itself is manageable for experienced riders, but the significant amount of climbing and varied Lake District terrain make it a demanding day in the saddle.

Come prepared for changing weather, steep climbs and technical or uneven sections.

Gravel bikes recommended but MTB or any off-road E-bike accepted.

Feed Stations

Fully stocked feed zones will be available on route, with snacks, fruit, sweets, chocolate and drink refills to keep you fuelled throughout the ride.

All riders will receive:

  • A bespoke Event Medal

  • Event Merchandise

  • Snacks & drinks at the finish

  • The satisfaction of completing a challenging Lake District gravel adventure
