Leave the pavement behind and discover a side of Manchester few people ever see.
Beyond Manchester by Wild Deer Events returns on Saturday 4 September 2027, with two routes taking you from the heart of the city and deep into the landscapes beyond it.
Choose between the 55km Ultra or 25km Trail Run and experience Manchester from a completely different perspective. From canals and rivers to disused railways, greenbelt, historic landmarks and the Irwell Valley, this is far more than a city run.
Starting from Cathedral Gardens in the heart of Manchester, the 55km route begins by taking you through the city before reaching the Manchester Ship Canal.
From here, you'll head south along the canal through Salford Quays, passing the BBC buildings before crossing onto the Bridgewater Canal. You'll run past the Imperial War Museum North and catch views of Old Trafford before continuing through Eccles.
The route then leaves the canals behind and joins a disused railway, taking you north through the outer suburbs towards Bolton and Bury.
One of the highlights of the route is more than 10km of the Irwell Sculpture Trail, where you'll enjoy some fantastic views across the Irwell Valley before turning back towards Manchester.
The final section brings you back into the city centre, passing some of Manchester's most impressive historic buildings, including its cathedrals and law courts.
